I am Masaru Horikoshi, Director of the National Center for Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Research. As the eldest member of the center, I have long been engaged in psychotherapy, including cognitive behavior therapy. Many aspects of those studies will always remain to be learned, even though I actually learn new things every day. The center specifically focus on the three fields of clinical medicine, research, and collaboration. We have excellent staff members, with many innovative studies in progress. Personally I love music and I can call myself a music enthusiast. Psychotherapy has many characteristics in common with music. In fact, psychotherapy is like an improvisation. It does not mean much if one does not understand the rules, yet it will be too ordinary and will not move anyone if played exactly the same as sheet music. Moreover, it will be poor and dreadful if one is continuously off-key. One becomes a kind of virtuoso when one knows the rules and uses notes out of tune on purpose. I know, I still have a long way to go to be a virtuoso.
