Research and Biography
I have a fundamental dream. That is, “to achieve a world where everyone can live happily.” For the dream, I have two aims: one is “to expel suffering from illnesses such as psychiatric disorders”, and the other is “to seek better ways so that people can live with improved health, energy and a joyful spirit.” I am always contemplating about this and stay focused on my research with these aims every day. As a means of achieving these aims, I have been focusing on diet and nutrition, a prime factor governing the development and functions of humans, and a factor that can be easily modified in our daily life. Going forward, I'll focus on the concepts of “Nutritional Psychiatry” and “Nutritional Brain Sciences,” conducting further research.
In the past, I belonged to the Department of Mental Disorder Research (Director: Dr. Hiroshi Kunugi) and have conducted many studies for researching on biomarkers, pathophysiologic mechanisms, and new treatments for psychiatric disorders. During this tenure, I have conducted analyses of clinical samples from human subjects with psychiatric disorders and healthy controls, a randomized controlled-trial (RCT) focusing on effects of a supplement in healthy subjects, psychopharmacologic experiments in animals (rats), PET imaging studies in rats, and meta-analyses on previous reports. As one of my strengths, I have experience in conducting a broad range of studies from clinical studies in humans to psychopharmacological studies in animals. Further, I can also deal with multiple data analyses for studies including meta-analyses, omics-based research, and genetic research. Currently, I belong to the Department of Behavioral Medicine and am conducting a study on developing biomarkers of major depressive disorders associated with adverse childhood experiences.
I hope to make the best use of my wide background as my strength by integrating psychological, nutritional, basic science and psychiatric approaches, and by contributing in research in association with like-minded colleagues in view of fulfilling my dream of a society where people all around the world live happily.
