She presented "Sialic acid metabolites preclude the development of myopathic phenotype in the DMRV/hIBM mouse model" in the oral session.
We demostrated, for the first time, a possibility of the development of therapy for distal myopathy with rimmed vacuoles (DMRV)/hereditary inclusion body myopathy (hIBM)
We treated DMRV mice with ManNAc and sialic acid. Surprisingly, the disease was almost completely prevented by the therapy, supporting the next move towards the clinical trial.
The results were published in June 2009 issue of Nature Medicine .
